![]() Information in this document was compiled from various sources including handbooks, extension publications, and previous PMSPs for tomato. This document addresses the current pests of tomato for commercial tomato production in the southeastern United States. For effective insect and weed control, the timing of spray application(s) is critical. Management of tomato diseases requires the integration of resistant cultivars and a preventative spray program. These three types of controls should be implemented for integrated pest management strategies. For each pest, the current biological, cultural, and chemical controls are provided where they apply. This document outlines the major and minor insects, pathogens, and weeds that can impact tomato production in the southeastern United States. Tomatoes are susceptible to various diseases and insect pests. Therefore, we set out to prepare a PMSP for tomato covering the Southeast region including Virginia (VA), Kentucky (KY), Tennessee (TN), North Carolina (NC), South Carolina (SC), Alabama (AL), Mississippi (MS), Louisiana (LA), Arkansas (AR), Georgia (GA), and Florida (FL). As needs and priorities change over time, an update to these PMSPs was overdue. The most recent PMSPs for tomato covering states in the Southeast region are a decade old (Southern IPM Center, 2007 Riley et al., 2007). Pest Management Strategic Plans (PMSP) outline priorities for research, outreach, and regulation activities.
